VAPOBLOC enthalpy heat exchanger – optimal humidity and heat recovery
An enthalpy heat exchanger with innovative membrane
The VAPOBLOC is an advanced enthalpy heat exchanger. Its innovative membrane enables the transfer of humidity from the exhaust air to the incoming supply air—or removes excess humidity from the fresh air in hot or tropical conditions. All this happens without allowing the transfer of germs, spores, or bacteria.
Thanks to this hygienic and efficient operation, VAPOBLOC is ideal for sensitive environments such as hospitals, schools, nursing homes, and multi-family residential buildings. Our technology delivers maximum humidity transfer while keeping operating costs exceptionally low.
Operating principle
In the VAPOBLOC enthalpy heat exchanger, water vapor molecules pass through the polymer membrane, allowing humidity transfer without cross-contamination. In winter, the supply air is humidified using humidity from the exhaust air. Particles, odors, viruses, and bacteria are fully retained, ensuring hygienic operation during both humidity and heat recovery.
Additional benefits
Impact on resident health
Low indoor humidity causes the mucous membranes in the respiratory tract to dry out more quickly, weakening the body’s natural defense mechanisms against bacteria and viruses. Dry air can also lead to skin dehydration and itching, which is particularly problematic for individuals with skin conditions such as eczema (atopic dermatitis).
Low humidity further reduces the moisture on the surface of the eyes, potentially causing irritation or inflammation. In addition, inadequate humidity can damage a wide range of household items and materials.
Cost savings through energy efficiency
Enthalpy heat exchangers outperform conventional heat exchangers by efficiently regulating humidity levels and maximizing energy savings. Using a special polymer membrane, they transfer heat and moisture between the air streams, resulting in significant cost reductions.
In winter, they release heat and humidity into the incoming fresh air, preventing freezing under normal conditions and eliminating the need for a preheater. In summer, they remove heat and humidity from the incoming air, improving cooling performance.
This dual function makes enthalpy heat exchangers an essential component of an efficient building energy system—delivering substantial cost savings for both heating and cooling.
Reliable heat transfer with sustainable design
With over 10 years of experience in the development of enthalpy plate heat exchangers, Vapobloc stands out for its robust and long-lasting design. The system is engineered to withstand mechanical stress during transport, storage, and installation.
Its precision tongue-and-groove assembly and mechanical sealing—completely free of adhesives—ensure long-term airtightness. At the end of its service life, the individual layers can be easily separated and recycled. Vapobloc is easy to clean and virtually maintenance-free, as it contains no moving parts.
